The door to your heart

Revelations 3:20 – “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.

Today I was visiting Nazareth – the town where Jesus grew up, and as I walked the streets, I found myself in front of a beautiful building with a massive wooden door. The image of that door struck me. The word “door” is mentioned more than 80 times in the Bible and is quite significant in its spiritual application. How does the image of a door fit into our spiritual growth and personal walk with the Lord?

In Revelation 3:20 Yeshua tells us how He’s standing at the door knocking, yearning for us to hear His voice and open the door so that He might dine with us. The Lord is revealing a key here for unlocking intimacy and communion with Him. It’s up to us not just to hear His voice, but to respond to His voice with obedience and faith.

As you open the door to your heart, your mind, and your life to Jesus today, what will happen? When you open your door to someone in Israel, and invite him or her to dine with you, then you’re conveying that you’re interested in more than just a meal. You want to commit to a friendship, to cooperation, and to share your lives. When you come under that person’s roof, you come under that person’s protection and care, as if you’re a member of his or her family.

Receive the truth of this passage, that Yeshua is that person who wants to share your life, your troubles, your challenges, and your heart. He wants to be that friend that will never leave you nor forsake you, who will protect you, and guide through everyday life. It’s up to us to simply open that door everyday as we wake to a new day.

Lord, I pray that you would help me to hear your voice and to always be ready to open the door when you are knocking. I invite you to come and dine with me. Once again I surrender the lordship of my life to you, and declare that you are my Lord and Savior. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
